EverCell Bio: Facilitating and Enhancing the Application of hiPSC Technology

EverCell Bio

Facilitating and Enhancing the Application of hiPSC Technology

Building relevant human disease models from patient cells once felt limited in scale and difficult to access. Human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) technology brings that opportunity to reality. However, significant challenges remain in realizing the promised results due to the inherent complexity, clonal variability and logistical barriers. Recognizing how easily projects can lose direction in this space, EverCell Bio was founded to provide focused expertise needed to guide complex cell modelling efforts, such as reprogramming, gene editing and differentiation, into precise and informative results. The company helps academic research teams, pharmaceutical developers, and emerging biotechs apply hiPSC technology with greater confidence and success. These cell models can unlock powerful insights only when handled with careful attention to detail and thorough planning. EverCell Bio provides both technical depth and a framework for success shaped through years of direct experience in the field to make hiPSC technology truly work. Founded in 2017, EverCell Bio was born from the vision of stem cell expert Philip D. Manos, who brings a rare combination of scientific expertise and commercial insight. His early work in hiPSC reprogramming, including breakthroughs using modified mRNA and cell engineering, laid the foundation for the company’s direction. As founder and CEO, Philip leads a team focused on translating stem cell technology into real-world impact. “We don’t just deliver the science; we also prioritize informing our clients in a collaborative fashion. Our goal is to help them make the most of hiPSC technology in a way that strengthens and accelerates their development programs,” says Manos. Every Cell, Every Detail: Services That Fit the Challenge The process often begins with reprogramming patient-derived tissues, such as skin or blood samples, into high-quality hiPSC lines. These serve as a starting point for generating specific human cell types to be used in the development of new therapies or cellular disease models, including mixed cortical neurons, cardiomyocytes, and hepatocytes, made to meet diverse research and therapeutic objectives. EverCell Bio also provides gene-editing services to enhance the patient relevance and applicability of these cells to better model human disease. Gene editing allows precise modifications to the genetic makeup of the hiPSCs, enabling the introduction of disease-specific mutations or the correction of genetic anomalies.

Bicell Scientific

Shaping the Future of Antibody Discovery and Therapeutics

John Hou, CEO

As the need for advanced therapies in precision medicine grows, BiCell Scientific is pushing the boundaries of antibody innovation. The company delivers advanced discovery and maturation solutions that strengthen binding affinities, develop fully human-compatible antibodies, and explore new directions, such as nanobodies, paving the way for safer and more impactful treatments. Better binding and more precise antibody design are not just scientific achievements for the company; they carry real implications for patients. More potent antibodies can lower required dosages, reduce potential side effects, and improve the overall safety of therapies. For many researchers, Bicell Scientific’s solutions provide the bridge between early discovery and viable clinical applications. Every incremental improvement in antibody development has the potential to save lives, and BiCell Scientific’s focus on innovation and patient outcomes makes it a defining force in modern medicine. Strengthening and Humanizing Antibodies A common challenge in therapeutic research arises when antibodies developed from animal models or early screenings fail to bind effectively to their targets. Low binding affinity can limit the success of otherwise promising candidates. Addressing this, Bicell Scientific’s affinity maturation has become one of the most in-demand solutions in antibody development. The process involves cloning a customer’s antibody, presenting it on a yeast cell surface, and repeatedly screening it against the desired antigen under increasingly stringent conditions. Over multiple rounds, the binding affinity improves dramatically, providing researchers with stronger and more reliable candidates to advance into therapeutic applications. “Anybody who wants to move into therapeutics needs to go through stringent testing to make sure their antibody works. Binding affinity is one of the most critical factors, because without it, nothing else follows,” says John Hou, CEO of Bicell Scientific. Alongside affinity maturation, there is a growing demand for its expertise in fully human antibodies. Regulatory bodies are encouraging safer, more human-compatible approaches, moving away from animal-based methods. Two strategies that make this possible are the company’s patient-derived antibodies and de novo synthetic libraries. Bicell Scientific’s patient-based discovery involves cloning antibodies directly from individuals fighting a disease, leveraging the natural strength of human immune responses. This eliminates the need for additional humanization and reduces the risk of rejection. Synthetic libraries, on the other hand, are created through DNA synthesis and computer design, producing millions of potential variations that can be screened for effectiveness. While unpredictable, they greatly expand the range of possibilities for discovery..

Sustainable Concrete Solutions through Enzyme Innovation

Suzanne Scarlata, Co-founder, Inventor & Consultant; Nima Rahbar, Co-founder, Inventor & Consultant

When Suzanne Scarlata, a skilled biochemist, and Nima Rahbar, a civil engineering professor, crossed paths at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), little did they know it would result in a revolutionary product. Their conversation about the Dutch experimenting with microbes in concrete sparked a groundbreaking approach to concrete treatments using isolated enzymes. Early on, the duo recognized that the Dutch concept was great in theory but held practical challenges. With the help of graduate students, Scarlata and Rahbar explored the use of isolated enzymes for regular treatment, which were found to be more practical and effective. This caught the attention of Charlie Maddox, who joined as a co-founder and CEO of their new venture, Enzymatic. With Scarlata and Rahbar leading as consultants, Enzymatic embarked on a journey toward greener and self-healing structures. Its core focus revolves around developing green solutions for concrete, particularly with the use of a derivative of carbonic anhydrase, an enzyme that is present in all living things. Enzymatic’s solution repairs micro-cracks in concrete and acts as a protective shield against harmful substances such as chloride ions. This highly effective, self-healing property enables ordinary concrete to last up to four times longer. “Our solution enhances the durability of concrete, contributing to its resilience and longevity while also embodying a shift toward sustainable infrastructures through advanced technologies,” says Suzanne Scarlata, co-founder, inventor and consultant. The concrete industry contributes almost eight percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. Enzymatic’s carbon-neutral structural material offers strength and durability while significantly reducing emissions..
