Leading the Way in Healthcare Distribution

Zuellig Pharma

Zuellig Pharma is driven by the mission of making healthcare more accessible. For over a century, it has brought healthcare essentials, lifesaving therapies, medicine, as well as data, digital, and disease management solutions to communities in Asia. The company currently has over 80 warehouses across 13 markets in Asia and has accelerated the expansion of its warehousing facilities in recent years to meet the increased need for cold chain solutions and vaccine-related services. Its capabilities ensure successful product delivery to even the remotest parts of Asia while maintaining product integrity, which is critical given the development of new drugs utilizing mRNA technologies.

Zuellig Pharma’s cold chain solutions include eZCooler, an environmentally friendly innovation that extends the storage time of temperature-sensitive products in transit from two days (in a traditional system) to five days. This allows the company to deliver healthcare to rural areas throughout Asia without contaminating the supplies. Zuellig Pharma also works together with partners to design and manage clinical trials supply chains of varying scales, from smaller regional studies to complex global multi-center ones.

With 16 depots across Asia Pacific, Europe, and the U.S., Zuellig Pharma is able to ship to over 55 markets across the globe and has successfully supported over 5,500 clinical trials, demonstrating its extensive experience in providing global product sourcing and distribution solutions. Its commercialization business, ZP Therapeutics, has built a strong reputation as the go-to commercialization partner for the healthcare industry. The business is seen as a valued partner in providing accessible innovations to the healthcare community.

Its healthcare partner network covers 90,000 pharmacies and drugstores, 30,000 stores, and various hospital channels across 13 markets in Asia.

Zuellig Pharma’s technology solutions break data silos to create a connected healthcare ecosystem. Its technology platforms, such as eZRx, the largest B2B healthcare e-commerce platform in ASEAN, and eZTracker, the first live production-grade blockchain traceability solution to boost supply chain resilience, drive growth for clients by enhancing their engagement with healthcare professionals and patients.

As an example, Zuellig Pharma has been delivering PD solutions to 4,000 patients (approximately half of the total number of patients in Malaysia requiring PD treatment) all over Malaysia, including the most inaccessible areas in East Malaysia, since 2007. The company utilizes all modes of transport—such as trucks, boats, off-road four-wheel drives and planes, to deliver the solutions directly to patients’ homes.

Having operated in Asia for more than a century, we are fully cognizant of the challenges that healthcare systems face and are in a unique position to provide solutions to meet these needs across the value chain

Sustainability is also a central part of Zuellig Pharma’s mission. The company improves health outcomes, nurtures talent, and looks after the environment with sustainability in mind. The company is dedicated to taking responsibility and being a driving force in creating a sustainable world for future generations. It continues to prioritize supporting the evolving healthcare needs in Asia. Testament to this commitment, Zuellig Pharma was awarded the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for the third year running in 2023, the highest accolade to be awarded to a company for its sustainability efforts, from the world’s most trusted sustainability rating.

“There are numerous challenges facing the healthcare industry today, including rising inequality leading to disparate access to healthcare, supply chain challenges when it comes to healthcare product distribution, and infrastructure gaps,” says Maikel Kuijpers, the executive vice president, distribution, Zuellig Pharma. “Having operated in Asia for more than a century, we are fully cognizant of the challenges that healthcare systems face and are in a unique position to provide solutions to meet these needs across the value chain.”

In a world where new technologies are continuing to revolutionize various industries, it is important to Zuellig Pharma that they continue to innovate and develop solutions that address challenges in the spaces they work in. By adopting a digital-first approach to the way they work, the company aims to innovate for long-term success, and remains committed to furthering access to healthcare for populations across Asia.
