Propelling Cancer Medicine into the Future

In the past two decades, the pharmaceutical and biotech industries have made notable progress in the development of innovative cancer treatments. However, despite the substantial investment of billions of dollars in extensive research, it is evident there are persistent challenges that need to be addressed. Statistical data indicates that existing anti-cancer therapeutics still encounter important resistance to treatments

A major resistance to cancer treatment is that existing therapeutics cannot effectively reach every cancer cell within the tumor. As a tumor grows, the rapid reproduction of cancer cells leads to the depletion of oxygen in their vicinity, resulting in the formation of hypoxic zones and the deterioration of blood vessels which become dysfunctional and collapsed. Current therapeutics need blood vessels to be diffused in the tumor and reach all cancer cells. Many studies demonstrated that 90% of a tumor receive little or no drug at all. To overcome this challenge, a revolutionary solution has emerged. Starpax’s groundbreaking technology comprises two integral components that work in tandem. The first element comprises Starpax living Magnetodrones. They do not rely on blood vessels for diffusion within the tumor and do not circulate in the bloodstream limiting side effects in the rest of the body. The Starpax Magnetodrones are injected directly in the tumor and navigate with drug attached to their surface in the interstitial space of tumor tissues. The second element is the Starpax PolarTrak that controls in 3D with millimetric precision the trajectory of the Magnetodrones.

This unique device in which the patient is positioned generates virtual monopole magnetic fields from wich the Magnetodrones are sensitive. It allows the Magnetodrones to be trapped within the tumor and diffuse them throughout its volume within a remarkably short time frame of 20 minutes.

“Starpax is not a typical pharmaceutical or biotech company. It stands apart from the rest by combining four departments—pharmaceutical, biological, electromagnetic engineering, and artificial intelligence,” says Michael Gareau, founding president of Starpax Biopharma. “By harnessing the power of these disciplines, Starpax is pioneering a new era in cancer treatment technology. Our goal is to tackle a major problem that has remained unaddressed by traditional chemotherapy or immunotherapy approaches for over a century.”

Magnetodrones possess aerotactic properties, enabling them to accumulate in hypoxic zones where oxygen levels align with their culture medium. They are non-pathogenic and sensitive to the magnetic fields generated by the PolarTrak. These Magnetodrones die within 60 minutes in the patient body.

Starpax’s preclinical studies on animals have yielded highly promising results, with all subjects treated demonstrating a 100 percent remission rate and no significant side effects. Building on this success, the company is preparing to initiate clinical trials in 2023 that will utilize an agnostic drug already approved by the FDA in other therapeutics. The treatment offers 3 therapeutics benefits: localised chemotherapy, hypoxia therapy and immunotherapy in a single treatment.

“Our focus will be on six Unmet Medical Need indications—pancreas, prostate, head and neck, breast recurrence metastasis, colorectal non-operable, and vulva,” says Gareau. “To maximize efficiency and effectiveness, we will employ a Bayesian adaptive protocol throughout the trials, with the ultimate goal of obtaining FDA approval in Phase II .”
