Advancements in targeted gene therapy and immunotherapy are transforming cancer treatments with unprecedented precision. These cutting-edge therapies provide new treatment options for patients with rare or refractory tumors, reducing the need for invasive procedures and minimizing side effects. This progress brings new hope to patients worldwide.

Shanghai Yuansong Biotechnology is making significant strides in the biopharmaceutical industry with its groundbreaking approach to cancer treatment.

The company specializes in developing oncolytic viruses (OV), which create therapies that selectively target and destroy cancer cells while sparing healthy tissues. This innovative strategy, known as Cancer-Targeted Gene-Virotherapy Therapy (CTGVT), combines gene therapy with oncolytic virus therapy to enhance treatment efficacy in the past 24 years. The company’s clinical progress underscores the uniqueness of its methods and products, setting it apart from competitors and establishing a strong foothold in the industry.

“Our mission is to push the boundaries of cancer treatment by leveraging our distinctive capabilities and integrating cutting-edge gene and virus therapies,” says Dr. Kang-jian Zhang, CEO and co-founder at Shanghai Yuansong Biotechnology.

Transforming Cancer Therapy with Oncolytic Viruses based on CTGVT strategy

Demonstrating Shanghai Yuansong’s innovative expertise is its flagship product, YSCH-01, an oncolytic virus designed using the CTGVT strategy to replicate the genetic material specifically within tumor cells. This process leads to the destruction of cancerous cells and stimulates a healthy immune response. YSCH-01 utilizes a recombinant type-I interferon gene called L-IFN. Unlike natural type-I interferon, which has limited efficacy and safety concerns as a monotherapy, L-IFN has been specifically engineered to enhance anti-cancer functions. It directly destroys cancer cells and modulates the immune environment, prompting the infiltration and activation of immune cells such as NK cells and CD8+ T cells.

During pre-clinical stages, YSCH-01 has demonstrated a broad anti-cancer spectrum, showing significant tumor growth inhibition across various cancer models. The product's unique mechanism of action can significantly reverse the expression of PD-L1 in immune checkpoint-negative or drug-resistant tumors in clinical OV-treated patients, making it a promising candidate for combination therapies with other immunotherapies.

This foundation has resulted in impressive clinical progress for Shanghai Yuansong. The first in-human trials of YSCH-01, involving direct intratumoral administration, have shown promising results. These initial findings demonstrated an objective response rate (ORR) of 27.3 percent and a disease control rate (DCR) of 81.8 percent among patients with advanced solid tumors, underscoring the treatment’s potential to significantly improve patient outcomes.

Innovative Approach to Cancer Treatment

Advanced solutions like YSCH-01 are developed by considering various factors, including the complexity of chemistry, manufacturing, and control (CMC) processes, the identification of suitable biomarkers, and the discovery of effective delivery methods for clinical trials, including but not limited to intratumoral injection, intraperitoneal administration, thoracic administration, nebulization administration, intracranial cystic administration, etc. Attention to detail and effective coordination to ensure the product is manufactured under good manufacturing practices (GMP) are fundamental to guaranteeing quality.

  • Our mission is to push the boundaries of cancer treatment by leveraging our distinctive capabilities and integrating cutting-edge gene and virus therapies

Shanghai Yuansong’s commitment to innovation and excellence, coupled with its focus on identifying predictive biomarkers for patient response, has advanced the alignment of therapies with individual genetic profiles, enhancing efficacy while ensuring treatments are safer and more effective.

The company continues to explore various administration routes for oncolytic viruses, including intravenous and aerosol inhalation methods, to improve treatment accessibility and effectiveness. This flexibility holds the potential to revolutionize cancer therapy administration, particularly for hard-to-reach tumors.

In alignment with these advancements, Shanghai Yuansong’s research and development team is poised to advance the field of OV therapies by continuously integrating innovative gene therapy with cutting-edge technology. They are set to develop groundbreaking therapeutic strategies, with six promising products in the pipeline, each utilizing modified OV to deliver synergistic therapeutic genes.

Expansion of clinical trials through global collaborations will help validate the findings and enhance the company’s international presence, showcasing its lead product and clinical progress. The introduction of YSCH-01 to the market will enable it to target multiple cancer indications, including lung cancer, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, sarcoma, head and neck cancer, triple-negative breast cancer, and glioblastoma. Shanghai Yuansong is poised to significantly advance cancer treatment, supported by a solid research foundation and a commitment to addressing challenges, marking the beginning of a new era in therapeutics. The company’s relentless pursuit of excellence in improving patient lives positions it as a leader in the field of biotherapeutic treatments.
