By converting a tiny, non-immunogenic native antigen into a big nanoparticle that is easily identified by the immune system and exposing numerous copies of the original antigen, oligoDOM®, like other self-assembling nanoparticle technologies, elicits a robust B-cell response. The oligoDOM® technology platform is very adaptable since it can be employed with a variety of antigens as well as within a variety of vaccination technologies, such as recombinant proteins or mRNA technology, resulting in multiple value creation potential.

Current seasonal flu vaccinations are only partially effective as they target strain-specific surface antigens, which mutate at a rapid pace and consequently vary seasonally. A universal vaccination offers the critical possibility to give broad coverage across all seasonal and pandemic strains, which is sorely required. In preclinical testing, Osivax's lead candidate demonstrated strong and long-lasting systemic and local immune responses. In a GLP toxicological investigation, it demonstrated high activity against both A and B strain flu viruses in vivo, as well as a favorable safety profile.
