Osivax's novel Proprietary Nanoparticle Technology - oligoDOM® is designed to trigger immense T-cell responses, including strong and sustained B-cell responses. The Nanoparticles in the technology self-assemble to present immunogenic structures of a specific virus in repetition to induce an innate immune response. Thanks to a special signal sequence targeting and activating immune system cells, oligoDOM® has been engineered to boost the T-cell immunological response to the native antigen.

By converting a tiny, non-immunogenic native antigen into a big nanoparticle that is easily identified by the immune system and exposing numerous copies of the original antigen, oligoDOM®, like other self-assembling nanoparticle technologies, elicits a robust B-cell response. The oligoDOM® technology platform is very adaptable since it can be employed with a variety of antigens as well as within a variety of vaccination technologies, such as recombinant proteins or mRNA technology, resulting in multiple value creation potential.

The company announced positive findings from its Phase 2a clinical study with OVX836, a broad-spectrum influenza vaccine candidate created utilizing the company's patented oligoDOM® nanoparticle technology platform, in December 2021. OVX836, unlike traditional vaccines that target highly modifying surface proteins and must be updated to meet seasonal influenza strains, targets the interior nucleoprotein (NP), a highly conserved antigen that is significantly less vulnerable to changes and hence provides universal protection.

Current seasonal flu vaccinations are only partially effective as they target strain-specific surface antigens, which mutate at a rapid pace and consequently vary seasonally. A universal vaccination offers the critical possibility to give broad coverage across all seasonal and pandemic strains, which is sorely required. In preclinical testing, Osivax's lead candidate demonstrated strong and long-lasting systemic and local immune responses. In a GLP toxicological investigation, it demonstrated high activity against both A and B strain flu viruses in vivo, as well as a favorable safety profile.
