The Rise of Personalized Immunotherapy
Recent advances in cancer immunotherapy have revolutionised cancer treatment. They offer promising outcomes by leveraging the body's immune system to target and destroy cancer cells.
FREMONT, CA: In recent years, remarkable strides have been made in cancer immunotherapy, marking a transformative era in cancer treatment. This innovative approach uses the body's immune system to identify, target, and eradicate cancer cells. Breakthroughs such as checkpoint inhibitors, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, and personalised vaccines have demonstrated unprecedented success, offering new hope to patients and reshaping the landscape of oncology.

The first TIL therapy approved by the FDA, Lifileucel, is intended to treat metastatic melanoma that has progressed following PD-1 antibody therapy. Tumor-derived lymphocytes are isolated, grown in vitro, and then reinfused into patients as part of TIL therapy. This therapy presents a promising route for personalised cancer treatment, as TIL cells can specifically recognise and target cancer cells particular to each patient.
TCR-T Therapy's Reach into Intracellular Antigens
The FDA approved Afami-cel, Adaptimmune's TCR-T therapy, for marketing use in the management of synovial sarcoma. With the potential to become the first T-cell therapy for solid tumours, Afami-cel could broaden the application of immunotherapy to targets inside cells. It would be a huge step forward for the field and a systemic breakthrough for effective tumour treatment if approved.
