FREMONT, CA :-Biotechnology is not a new discipline, but it is rapidly evolving and finding more and more applications in daily lives, ranging from pharmaceutical development to food production and waste disposal.


Living cells are used in biotechnology to create or manipulate items for particular purposes, such as genetically modified foods. Biotechnology is hence related to genetic engineering and first emerged as a separate field in the food industry at the turn of the twentieth century, later being followed by other industries such as medicine and the environment.


Biotechnology Applications and Uses


Biotechnological advancements are now a part of everyday lives, and they can be found in pharmacies and supermarkets, among other areas. Furthermore, in recent months, biotechnology has emerged as a key player in the battle against the.


COVID-19 global pandemic, as it aids in deciphering the virus' genome and understanding how bodies' immune systems react to infectious agents. As a result, biotechnology will play a critical role in future society to prevent and contain potential pathogens. However, this is just one of its many uses. Following are some of the most important in various fields:


Medicine



Some of the milestones of biotechnology and its alliance with genetic engineering include the invention of insulin, growth hormone, molecular identity and diagnostics, gene therapy, and vaccines such as hepatitis B.


Food


In addition to the genetically modified crops described above, biotechnology has resulted in the development of products such as WEMA, a drought-resistant and insect-resistant crop that could be critical in the battle against hunger in Africa.


Environment


The catabolic properties of microorganisms, fungi, plants, and enzymes are used to restore polluted environments through bioremediation processes, which are very useful for ecological recovery.


Industry


The revolution of new smart materials in tandem with biotechnology is just getting started. Self-healing concrete, plants that change color when they sense an explosive, clothing and footwear made of synthetic spider web, and so on may be available soon.
