It is further noted that, by focusing on ways, innovation and moving forward is possible as laboratory medicine is integral to addressing unmet patient needs, expanding access to crucial testing, and improving health care around the world.
National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is celebrated between April 24 and 30 annually to celebrate the crucial role played by the medical laboratory professionals and pathologists in health care. There are thousands of staff employed in Mayo Clinic who toils day in and out to serve the patients there, and also the patients who send their samples for testing via Mayo Clinic Laboratories.
Mayo Clinic receives more than 40,000 patient specimens every day and each stage of testing requires equal amounts of care, plan and arrangement. Right from transportation and global logistics to specimen distribution and delivering the samples to its location, each staff is aware of their duties and responsibilities. It consists of a huge range of speciality areas including more than 95 unique laboratories and centres. Together they form one of the largest clinical laboratories in the world. A whopping number of 27 million tests and pathology services are performed every year here, which includes many unique tests, not available elsewhere. Dr Morice says that there’s a lot of innovation happening in laboratory medicine in the present day and Mayo Clinic is at the heart of that. He further adds that work has been going on to harness new technologies so that it can positively impact patient care using the highest quality standards possible.
