A Conversational AI Approach to Regulatory Intelligence

Life Sciences Review | Wednesday, June 22, 2022

Advancement in technology and scientific research has increased the pace at which regulations change. In addition to regional regulatory requirements, pharmaceutical organizations need to comply with international regulations too.

FREMONT, CA: The primary obstacle in the shifting regulatory landscape is the rapid increase in the number of pharmaceuticals under review, and regulatory authorities' constantly changing criteria and recommendations. Regulations in the life sciences industry are complicated, and the amount of data that needs to be examined is massive, mandating massive manual labour and time to keep the product compliant. Secondly, interpreting the data and determining the impact of changing regulations on the project, organizations, and other stakeholders pose a challenge. Following the compilation of regulatory revisions, product assessment is required to ensure compliance with the new regulation. However, the entire process of filtering and processing regulatory information for items is time-consuming. Even though individuals and organizations must follow these regulations, it can be challenging because there are multiple regulations covering multiple geographies and updates to regulations come at different times.

Users' preferences are changing toward individualised experiences as they utilise smartphones and other digital gadgets. Conversational AI is a branch of artificial intelligence that focuses on giving machines the ability to understand, analyse, and process human language. Chatbots use massive datasets, natural language processing, and machine learning to grasp the context and simulate text and audio responses. Chatbots (conversational AI helpers) provide users with human-like dialogues and a better experience.

Conversational AI can converse and compellingly sympathise with consumers to help them perform activities. Chatbots have progressed from classic rule-based approaches such as responding to frequently asked questions to more engaging and context-based reasoning. They have several features, which are stated below:

Time Efficiency:- Chatbots can quickly connect to a variety of systems and gather information, saving users a lot of time. This enhances efficiency and lessens the load of work

Ease of use:- An important characteristic is its accessibility, which simulates a human-like dialogue in text or speech format.

Real-time access:- To meet consumers' changing needs, chatbots can respond to queries by accessing numerous databases in real-time.

Contextual comprehension:- Each sector has its own set of jargon. Chatbots can be readily programmed to understand this context and respond appropriately.

Scalability:- Depending on the needs of the sector, chatbots can be readily scaled to handle varied workloads.

A regulatory expert performs a variety of activities in the regulatory area, including maintaining files and data from various events for audit reasons and future reference, advising ways to achieve required compliance in the organisation, and reporting compliance status. Using Nextgen technologies such as AI and graph databases, a chatbot will assist regulatory professionals in expediting the intelligence collecting process.
