GenomSys
Enabling Personalized Medicine for All

GenomSys

Founded in 2016 by a group of experienced engineers and bio-informaticians, GenomSys is a Swiss company developing state-of-the-art technology and services for the efficient analysis and secure management of genomic information. The company is a pioneer in the development of open standards for genomic data storage and processing and in the implementation of compliant software and tools for its effective application. GenomSys contributed decisively to the development of the new ISO MPEG-G standard, which is the most interoperable and safe technology for genomic data handling. This new standard enables laboratories, clinics, and research centres to finally write, read, and share data using a mutual syntax. Moreover, the intuitiveness, reliability, and reproducibility of the technology takes genomics to the next level.

GenomSys is widening the reach of advanced genomic analysis, the basis for any precision medicine application. Since the development of NGS technologies, the cost of genome sequencing has been dramatically decreasing. The past few years have hence seen the development of several methodologies and software to analyze the resulting data, however in proprietary formats, requiring transcoding to be processed and often with complex parametrization requirements and control panels. GenomSys is further developing such tools to work directly with data in MPEG-G format, reducing pre-processing requirements, increasing efficiency and worldwide applicability. The resulting pipelines will also feature user friendly dashboards for parametrization and usage, and can be optimized to run in mobile environments, i.e., on everyone’s individual smartphone.

Thanks to the innovative technologies developed by GenomSys, anyone can access their genomic data, store it safely in their smartphone, order analyses, read the results, and share them with their doctor.

GenomSys is taking genomics to the digital age with the development of the fully digital MPEG-G standard and its compliant analytical tools. In addition, by leveraging MPEG-G built-in encryption, GenomSys ensures that everyone’s most sensitive information is carefully protected while guaranteeing full interoperability and hence to future-proof both customers’ data and its own solutions. “In order for us not only to talk about personalized medicine but to make it a reality, a framework must be established that enables laboratories to implement personalized diagnostic in a commercially reasonable way. Sequencing is already very efficient from an economic point of view, whereas subsequent data storage has yet to be considered more from this perspective. Through the MPEG-G format, it is possible to compress a whole-genome file to less than 25 percent of the size of legacy formats, resulting in cost savings for companies,” explains Claudio Alberti, Chief Technology Officer and Co- Founder, GenomSys.
  • GenomSys Variant Analyzer supports professionals in the diagnostic process and selecting treatment options.

GenomSys offer its MPEG-G Codec Suite, a collection of software tools to process genomic data compliant with ISO/IEC-23092 genomic data standard. The tools enable organizations to implement the standard and leverage its benefits by decoding genomic data; providing source code examples, a comprehensive user manual, and additional software to transcode from/to legacy formats and to integrate functionalities into existing applications and pipelines. Natively operating on the MPEG-G genomic data format is the GenomSys Variant Analyzer platform which enables accurate variants identification, annotation, and interpretation. Based on state-of-the-art pipelines and leveraging MPEG-G specific features, GenomSys Variant Analyzer supports professionals in the diagnostic process and selecting treatment options. Currently, GenomSys is taking the next step, enabling laboratories and end-users to take advantage of the new standard: MPEG-G native analytical pipelines for more efficient storage and focused analyses via selective access, and the ability for people to store and analyze their own genomic data in their smartphones, bringing genomics into the mobile world.
