Driven by leading scientific expertise and innovative applications of the latest technologies, Discovery Life Sciences (Discovery) has been a trusted partner for over 1,150 biopharma and diagnostics companies, developing effective therapeutic solutions over the last few decades.

Discovery boasts one of the world's largest pre-characterized commercial biospecimen inventories through its extensive biomarker experience and collaborations with more than 200 global clinical sites. “Our global locations and geographic coverage enable us to optimize specimen handling and characterization processes, ensuring consistent high quality for all client projects,” says Jay Scherer, Chief Operating Officer.

Beyond its impressive biospecimen repository, Discovery offers comprehensive analytical and biomarker services under one roof at its Huntsville headquarters. This integrated setup allows the company to deliver faster time-to-results, providing a significant advantage over other biospecimen providers.

Philosophy Built on Service Excellence and Customer Satisfaction

Discovery’s vision is to be the most trusted partner in life sciences research and clinical development. Rather than being merely a biospecimen supplier, it aims to be a true ally in research by providing end-to-end support for clients. This commitment is encapsulated in its 'Science at Your Service' consultative approach, which is reflected in its outstanding customer satisfaction, with an average NPS score of over 70—one of the highest in the industry.

“Customer service, communication, and tech support are consistently highlighted in our surveys as reasons why clients choose to work with us repeatedly,” says Scherer.

Beyond the Ordinary

Discovery has standardized and optimized its processes to ensure clients receive precisely what they need when they need it, with the assurance that everything has been correctly done.

Each sample undergoes a standard pre-screening process based on the disease and sample type, allowing clients to pre-select and pre-screen samples efficiently. Discovery also offers a wide range of in-house specialty lab services, including molecular pathology, next-generation sequencing, proteomics, flow cytometry, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and advanced cell biology services.

When clients approach Discovery Life Sciences with their vision and research objectives, the company focuses on understanding and addressing the primary issues. It demystifies the process, removes obstacles, and helps design a project that meets the goals within the timeline.

  • What We Do Is Deeply Personal. Our Team Members Share Many Personal Stories That Remind Us That There Is A Patient With Hope Behind Every Biospecimen Sample We Provide

Once the project starts, regular communication is maintained regardless of clients’ time zones. Consistent, transparent communication and protocol adherence ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services.

“We work in liaison with clients to understand their goals. This is crucial to position our supply chain and downstream analytical services to advance samples along the development path before they reach clients’ facilities,” says Scherer.

Success Stories Highlight Discovery’s Capabilities

Discovery's ability to deliver on its promise has enabled It to script numerous success stories. In one case, a client needed a large number of patient samples to test new cell therapies targeting adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Discovery worked closely with the client to identify pre-characterized samples from its bank and collect additional samples for this project. This project involves culturing the samples and testing them under multiple conditions. Extremely satisfied with these results, the client was able to progress this potential therapy further along its development lifecycle.

In another instance, Discovery partnered with a client and worked on the single-cell analysis of Crohn's biopsies from a clinical trial.

There is no standard protocol for processing Crohn's tissue biopsies for single-cell evaluation. Discovery sourced colon tissues and processed them using different cryopreservation, nuclei processing, and single-cell sequencing methods to address this. After developing and optimizing a custom workflow, Discovery’s cell biologists processed, sequenced, and analyzed pre-treatment and post-treatment Crohn's biopsies, resulting in another success.

“We became an extension of our client’s lab. The samples remained in-house, maintaining a full chain of custody, and were passed between labs seamlessly. This integrated approach saves time, maximizes data generation, and ensures high-quality results,” says Scherer.

What We Do Matters

At the heart of Discovery’s work is a commitment to advancing therapies and improving patient outcomes. It isn't just about science and technology—it’s deeply personal. The team is driven by personal stories of health crises that have affected them or their loved ones.

Our Global Locations And Scientific Expertise Enable Us To Optimize Specimen Handling And Characterization Processes, Ensuring Consistent High Quality For All Client Projects

“Our team members and customers often share personal incidents of health challenges. These stories remind us that there is a patient with hope behind every sample we provide. Our goal is to become the most trusted partner and contribute to innovative breakthroughs in diagnostics and treatments for hope and healing,” says Scherer.

As a premier biospecimen and biomarker specialist, Discovery Life Sciences knows that each biospecimen sample could hold the key to the next significant medical breakthrough, that every project matters, and, most importantly, that the patient is waiting.
