The HEOR services market grows as healthcare organizations seek optimization: increased efficiency, lower costs, and better patient outcomes. HEOR aids healthcare organizations to make decisions by offering evidence-based economic and clinical insights. It is common practice to use HEOR insights in making reimbursement decisions about pharmaceuticals. With regulation of medical device increasing and healthcare budgets being restricted, HEOR is becoming a critical part of the evidence and value proposition for MedTech: medical devices, diagnostics, and software.

Coreva Scientific specializes in providing value creation and HEOR services to MedTech providers, setting itself apart from other companies that primarily concentrate on the pharmaceutical sector. Understanding MedTechspecific challenges such as learning curves, incremental innovation, often limited clinical trial data, and hospital payers as opposed to national reimbursement puts Coreva Scientific in a unique space. By recognizing the significant divergence in health-economic value propositions between medical devices and pharmaceuticals, Coreva Scientific stands out as one of the few organizations that exclusively caters to this specific market niche.

Despite challenges in data availability, HEOR services remain valuable to MedTech companies. Coreva Scientific helps companies identify and collect the data they require through literature review or primary research. These data are then used to conduct meta-analyses and develop health-economic models, including budget-impact and cost-effectiveness models.

The evidence-based approach from Coreva Scientific helps its clients succeed in their engagements with hospitals, regulatory bodies, and the academic community. The company ensures its results are scientifically valid and can be presented in peer-reviewed literature, establishing trust within the industry for informed product decision-making.

Dr. Rhodri Saunders, CEO and founder of Coreva Scientific explained that “off-the-shelf answers are off the table! We don’t have any products that we resell to anybody, it’s all de novo; because every product is different, that is why the first part of the project is always understanding the needs of the client and the product”. For that, Coreva Scientific perform systematic or structured literature reviews to understand what data are available. Data are then analyzed and combined to create a value proposition for clients. This process of transforming data into value is what Coreva Scientific is all about.

Off-the-shelf answers are off the table! We don’t have any products that we resell to anybody, it’s all de novo; because every product is different, that is why the first part of the project is always understanding the needs of the client and the product.

An apt example to understand the impact of Coreva Scientific’s offering is found with use of capnography in procedural sedation. The firm conducted a meta-analysis, which provided new evidence for the product and also identified evidence gaps that could be filled to facilitate further market penetration. This led to a published health economics model that demonstrated the use of capnography in procedural sedation and a book chapter in a leading medical textbook outlining the risk of respiratory compromise and how clinicians can identify its early signs of onset. Subsequently, the firm worked with hospitals across three continents to collect real-world data on capnography use, helping healthcare providers become more familiar with technology, its potential applications, and driving evidence-based product uptake.

The forces behind such successes are Coreva Scientific’s employees, who comprise biochemists, biologists, pharmacists, chemists, and bioinformaticians. Many have doctoral degrees and/or higher degree specializations in data science, health economics, and computational analysis. The multi-faceted team is critical to understand the MedTech products they work on, how these interact with the body, and the medical relevance of outcomes. Equipped with such workforce, Coreva Scientific has maintained long-term relationships with all its clients since the consultancy was founded in 2016.
