Agriculture relies upon pesticides that can stunt the crops they are designed to protect and degrade the environment. Among the torchbearers empowering a transition toward more crop and eco-friendly agricultural products, Circadian Crop Sciences stands out for its pesticides formulated with antioxidants and biostimulants that help crops to reach their biological potential while controlling pests and, that can allow farmers to economically reduce sulfur use to levels good for the environment.

“Our products are regenerative substitutes to conventional farming practices, which create a sustainable environment while improving the environment,” says Ronald Lane, CEO of Circadian Crop Sciences.

To create regenerative pesticides, Circadian Crop Sciences uses natural active ingredients, FDA approved, and exempt from EPA pesticide residue tolerances. Peppermint oil in one of its products is an effective natural pesticide, but one that can stunt plants. Circadian offsets that drawback by adding antioxidants, triacontanol wax, and energy rich fatty acids from its patented raw corn oil. The product’s residues feed the biome and enhance it, rather than harm it.

The company has also developed a horticulture oil that can be used throughout summer and even combined with sulfur or used in rotation with sulfur applications.

Circadian’s expertise in developing products for specific purposes and bringing them to market has benefited many customers. They examine the scientific literature for appropriate and natural active ingredients when formulating a product. They seek supporting ingredients to offset potential negative effects of the active ingredients and to increase product efficacy.

This is where a biostimulant and/or antioxidant generally comes into play.

Formulations undergo an in-house test for efficacy and phytotoxicity. When satisfied, Circadian collaborates with universities and independent companies to field test the products. Circadian is also capable of updating labels and designing products to account for specialty uses.

Northwest Cannabis Solutions had good pest control using Circadian’s products with the exception of thrips. The team then developed a solution and registered it for use in Washington. It was offered at a discounted price for their evaluation as the product was not intensively field tested. The product then controlled thrips to the customers satisfaction in subsequent crops.

Circadian offers agricultural services to help farmers increase productivity sustainably and regeneratively. The company improved production in a leading cannabis company, Caliva. Circadian’s team customized a nutrient solution that accounted for some of Caliva’s other nutrient inputs, stopped them from using other fertilizer inputs, changed their irrigation management, and worked with their lead farmer on improving other aspects of production.

Circadian also saw an operational need for a regenerative pesticide that would boost crop yield and quality and subsequently created the product and registered it. Caliva uses this product and has won awards for quality.

Circadian has mastered the skill of creating great products and marketing them in a way that fits into its budget. Most farmers rely on pest control advisors (PCAs) of large chemical distributors, limiting competition. Circadian resolves this by creating unique products and targeting organic and specialty crop growers with weaker ties to chemical distributors and their PCAs. They gain the trust of large traditional farms with positive results from university field trials and by allowing these farms to sample products. The approach helped them spend within their means for research and marketing to maintain positive cash flows.

Lane’s 27 years of experience at the University of California, Davis as a superintendent of agriculture in the department of plant sciences and his years 8 years of commercial farming have laid the foundation for Circadian’s identification of agricultural needs and creating regenerative solutions.
