Cellex Cell Professionals is a group of companies that specializes in the manufacturing of hematopoietic blood stem cell products and developing and manufacturing cell therapy products for our clients. Cellex Cell Professionals supports biopharma and academia with a full portfolio of services around Cell and Gene Therapy for research, clinical and commercial use. Our company has experience in providing most different starting materials, GMP manufacturing of autologous and allogeneic cell types, for instance for CAR-T technologies, which are genetically modified with retroviral and lentiviral vectors.

The company has a collection center for stem cell collections and bone marrow harvests. For the cell and gene therapy development and manufacturing e.g. for UniCAR production, Cellex has a fully automated, audited, and inspected GMP facility including the support of the worldwide distribution.

“Cellex has undergone continuous development over the years to become a leader in this field. Our journey started with bone marrow collection, and later, we founded Cellex CMT to enable our customers to manufacture cell and gene therapy products under GMP conditions. In addition we founded Cellex CMS to address the challenges associated with getting materials for R&D and cell therapy products,” says Carla Kreissig, CEO, Cellex, which includes a data base of volunteer donors willing to donate cells for this purpose.

Cellex started its CMT business with a large U.S.- based pharma company. With the cooperation the client has brought two products into the commercial phase, licensed in the U.S. and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.

Cellex CMS is specialized in stem cell collection from allogeneic donors and offers transport and logistics for the manufactured cells. The company conducts this complex operation successfully due to its strong and flexible partner network worldwide. More importantly, it aligns the schedule of the collection with the schedule of the patient. For example, if the sample collection is done in Germany and the patient is in Australia, it needs to be ensured that the collection is done according to the patient’s preconditioning regimen. Cellex CMT’s coordination department has the bandwidth to deal with this complicated process. The company also offers training and support to customers to guarantee all necessary steps are taken for the success of a project. This wide range of capabilities is the biggest differentiator of Cellex CMT from other trial management organizations (TMOs) and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs).

Our journey started with bone marrow collection, and later, we founded Cellex CMT to enable our customers to manufacture cell and gene therapy products under GMP conditions. Later, we created Cellex CMS to address the challenge associated with getting materials for R&D and CAR-T products

For instance, Cellex CMT developed in cooperation with a biotech company a manufacturing process for the first switchable, allogeneic CAR-T product utilizing modern CRISPR technology along with viral vector transfection.

“This is a completely new approach, and we are really proud to be the first in Europe having a manufacturing license for such a product in hand,” says Kreissig.

Cellex CMT is currently planning to step into the U.S market. It will take a gradual approach, starting small and scaling up as necessary, to expand in this market.

With state-of-the-art facilities and a team of experts, Cellex is leading the way in this exciting and dynamic field. In the coming years, the company will play a vital role in taking more innovative ideas and concepts to the clinic.
