Leveraging powerful algorithms to analyse numerous compounds, the company is known for its precise detection of potential drugs and ability to promptly validate them in-silico before approving laboratory evaluations. Founded in 2019 to address gaps in early-stage cancer research, the company tackles challenges stemming from the absence of efficient identification and validation methods for novel drug targets and biomarkers. Recognising the uncertainties in differentiating promising compounds from potential drugs, co-founder Alberto Ocaña envisioned CancerAppy as a foundation for optimising the R&D of first-in-line drugs. Over time, the duo of Martin and Ocaña assembled a team comprising seasoned researchers and adopted a global scoring system to ensure high drug performance and viable development frameworks.

AI tools have played a pivotal role in CancerAppy’s success since its early days. Today, the platform efficiently handles one billion compounds in three weeks, a feat once deemed impossible. While intelligent algorithms play a crucial role, the company emphasises the symbiosis between AI and the scientific expertise of its team. This approach strikes a balance between the technology’s accurate analysis and the researchers’ proficiency in interpretation.

Building on early AI integration, the company specialises in solid tumour-related treatments. Through its open validation program CA 11, CancerAppy focuses on Poly ADP-ribose polymerase 1 (PARP1) as a target for solid tumours. The program involves seven steps, namely target identification, validation, lead identification, optimisation, preclinical and clinical validation, and personalised medicine.

The company’s focus extends to various cancer types, with its programs centred on breast and ovarian cancer, showing significant progress in the advanced R&D stages. Promising developments are also observed in lung and pancreatic cancer programs. CancerAppy anticipates initiating the preclinical phase for these studies within Q4 2023, showcasing a multifaceted approach to addressing distinct cancer types.

Established to reduce uncertainty in new cancer drug development, CancerAppy uniquely integrates biology, chemistry, AI, and computing expertise.
