Daniel Troncoso, CTO, Rocio Espinosa, COO, Jose Del Solar, CEO and Gerardo Bluske, CBO"Black soldier flies eat 1,400 times their weight in ten days, making it a better biomass indicator than traditional bioreactors. Also, we use organic waste as a substrate, offering a sustainable and cost-effective production platform for the proteins," explains Gerardo Bluske, Chief Business Officer of ByBug.
Producing recombinant proteins begins with a transcriptomic analysis of black soldier flies feeding on different substrates to identify over-expressing genes. ByBug then performs an analysis to identify specific larval components that need modification to produce the targeted protein, followed by trials with a test protein to increase production within the larvae. The result? Dried larvae rich in protein, healthy fatty acids, vitamin B12, essential minerals, and containing the desired recombinant protein serving as oral vaccines for animals, enzymes, functional ingredients, and even biomaterials.d
In addition to ByBug Synthetics, the company has also developed ByBug Farms, an in-situ modular infrastructure that merges the natural decomposing process of black soldier flies with synthetic biotechnology to enable the efficient conversion of organic waste into recombinant proteins, surpassing industry standards in terms of cost and quality.
Through genetically modified insects, ByBug transforms organic waste into recombinant proteins
ByBug's innovation extends beyond the biotech realm. It also addresses the detrimental effects of organic waste disposal in landfills, which contributes to methane emissions and imposes significant costs on companies for waste transportation. ByBug Farms offer a solution, as it allows on-site waste management, enabling the production of economically viable and environmentally sustainable fertilizers, insect meals, and even recombinant proteins. This opens up new income streams for companies while promoting a greener approach to waste management.
Recognized for its revolutionary technology, ByBug has received multiple awards in Argentina, Chile, and the USA. Spearheaded by a team of first-class engineers and entrepreneurs, the company aspires to take its innovative offerings global, internationalizing the technology and focusing on research and development, as well as intellectual property strategies. Their dedication extends to the development of new products with applications across diverse industries.
ByBug's innovative approach to valorizing organic waste, coupled with exceptional technological expertise, yields cost-effective, high-quality byproducts suitable for different industries. This positioning has earned ByBug the status of a trusted and trailblazing leader in the realm of recombinant protein generation. As ByBug continues to push the boundaries of biotechnology, the future looks promising for this visionary firm, poised to revolutionize not only recombinant protein generation but also organic waste management on a global scale.
