Ivana Suchankova, Business ManagerBiopreparáty has taken the onus on itself to solve this dilemma by offering biofungicides based on a hyperparasitic fungus Pythium oligandrum.
“Our biofungicides provide a sustainable and effective alternative to chemical fungicides. They safeguard crops and improve soil health and biodiversity. This initiative is vital for the new era of agricultural biotechnology while being safer and balancing global food demands,” says Ivana Suchankova, business manager at Biopreparáty.
Suchankova took over the company from her father, who started it 25 years ago. As a second-generation entrepreneur, she focuses on establishing the company on the global market. Her scientific background in biotechnology and molecular biology (from Uppsala University and the University of Oxford) is a huge advantage in the highly technical field of agribusiness.
Under Suchankova’s leadership, Biopreparáty has launched its brand-new product, Polyversum OD, after six years of rigorous R&D. The solution is registered in the central zone of Europe, and currently, the company is selling the OD formulation to customers in Czechia.
The OD formulation is the next-generation product. It stands out due to its exceptional ease of use, tailored specifically for farmers to enhance their daily operations. It boasts superior physicochemical properties, ensuring stability, efficiency, and effectiveness in various agricultural applications.
“Our company is consistently delivering biological solutions to over 35 countries in the world” “Over the past twenty years, we have successfully saved approximately 200,000 liters of chemicals (1 liter of chemical per hectare) by managing 200,000 hectares of land. With an annual production capacity of 500 tons, we can effectively cover 5 million hectares per year, thus substituting 5 million liters of chemical fungicides. Moreover, our recent acquisition of 40 hectares enables us to instantly expand our production capacity without constraints. Within the next two years, we aim to take over the EU fungicide market,” says Suchankova.
The company’s go-to-market strategy includes both B2B and B2C.
Its B2B division collaborates with large, established distributor chemical companies that lack an established framework for working with biological products. The goal is to provide the expertise and support needed to develop the market for these products.

On the B2C front, Biopreparáty sells directly to farmers in Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. The company provides them with all the necessary information regarding the use of its solutions, establishing a solid foundation.
In one instance, a large-scale canola and wheat producer—with almost 3500 hectares of agricultural land—has been using Polyversum for more than six years. This has enabled him to save more than 12,000 litres of chemicals and improve soil quality.
Biopreparáty’s products hold immense value in today’s agricultural world and are driven by the urgent need to address environmental, social, and economic challenges while ensuring food security. In the coming years, more farmers will utilize the products, contributing to a greener future.

We have already replaced 4 liters, highlighting our commitment to sustainability. Moreover, our recent acquisition of 40 hectares enables us to instantly expand our production capacity without constraints. Within the next two years, we aim to phase out the remaining hazardous fungicides in the EU.
