The pandemic exposed the inefficiencies of these tools, making it abundantly clear that companies would need better, more advanced safety systems and processes to stay on par with increasing data volume, analytical, and regulatory requirements. Today's situation has highlighted the need for life sciences-focused, purpose-built AI-powered SaaS solutions that leverage machine learning and natural language processing capabilities for safety and pharmacovigilance teams to identify, capture, share, analyze, and report patient data from across multiple domains. Additionally, AI-powered tools can help life sciences companies gather, analyze, and evaluate patient reactions to medications, which subsequently optimizes the vaccine therapy development process. However, proving the accuracy of the data gathered or delivered by these tools to governments and regulators would remain a challenge. Nevertheless, the industry is en route to implement authority-facing strategies to address this challenge and use AI- and ML-backed solutions for other facets of life sciences--ensuring patient safety. In 2021 and beyond, digital transformation within the life sciences industry is set to take center stage--implying that changes brought forth by the pandemic were just the tip of the iceberg.
